North President, Ernie Dresher, in the official 25th Annual Statewide Festival program, welcomed Avis Tarvin, Southern President, and all folk dancers, both North and South and included as well friends and spectators, which includes about everybody.
Official headuarters was again Hotel Sainte Claire (San Jose). The Civic Auditorium will host most of the dances, along with McCabe Hall.
With but a three-day Festival, the committee wasted little time, beginning Fridy morning, May 29th, with an all-day Picnic in Senter Park, 9:00 a.m. till 6:00 p.m. Following a pot luck lunch, there was dancing and an Ice Cream Social. Pardon me, but they lost me here, but it was probably great fun.
Later, during the evening from 7:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., the Institute was held in McCabe Hall, with dancing following from 10:30 p.m. to 2:00 a.m. That's fun around the clock!
Saturday morning was tour time, wine tasting, and visiting Old Town with lunch at El Gordos or Mimis and be ready for the afternoon dancing at McCabe's Hall. Or there were other activities, such as rehearsing for the Concert in the auditorium from 8:00 p.m. until 11:00 p.m. That left time for dancing in the Auditorium from 11:00 p.m. until 2:00 a.m. Don't leave now -- the After Party general dancing at the Sainte Claire is from 2:00 a.m. until 4:00 a.m. Also Kolo Dancing in McCabe's Hall, 11:00 p.m. until 2:00 a.m. Are you getting tired? I am just writing about it!
The program for the Sunday morning Installation Brunch in the Sainte Claire, out-programmed any to date, at least in size. Complete in every detail, it covered all the outgoing and incoming officers, Past Presidents, and a complete list of Statewide dates, along with a few historical notes.
We moved from brunch to the final event of the program, the Sunday afternoon Festival at the Auditorium. It was a fitting close and I liked their farewell, "Adios amigos."
A few special recognitions are in order. Once again we are indebted to General Chairperson, Jules di Cicco and his Co-chairperson (shus) his wife, Florence. Concert Director was, of course, Millie von Konsky. Soon to be heard from and at the moment in charge of Hospitality, Dolly Barnes; Masters of Ceremonies, Ann D'Alvy; General Dance Program, Bernice Schram; Institute, and a real comer, Frank Bacher; Installation Brunch, Florence di Cicco; General Statewide Program, Vi Dexheimer; After Parties, Dean Linscott; along with all those unsung folks who are always active and seldom heard.
Again, "¡Adiós amigos!"
