Sebastian "Sebi" Solomon grew up in the village of Luizi-Calugara, about five miles west of Bacau, a major city in Romanian Moldova. A member of the Hungarian Csango minority in the region, he spoke Romanian, Hungarian, and the Csango dialect at home.

In 2000, at age 19, he moved to Budapest for work. There he cultivated his love for the dances of Moldova, which had become quite popular in the tanchaz "dance house" scene.

Ilona Guldenat met Sebi seven years later at a tanchaz. As a couple they were a major part of the Moldovai dance scene. They were married in the fall of 2007 and moved to Ilona's home town of Cleveland, Ohio. They now work together to promote the Moldovai dance culture both locally and further afield at tanchaz events, Romanian festivals, and dance camps.
