Dr. Klaus Tschurtschenthaler was born April 18, 1947 and was a well-known dance instructor in his native Austria. He was from Helmsheim and was a professor at the Business Academy in Innsbruck.

He and his wife Monika taught evening classes in the Tyrol throughout the year. They arranged, together with Monika's parents from old-time framers, and transcribed them. Monika's father also had learned dances from the old-time farmers and had written them down.

With great dedication he stood up for the Tyrolean folk dance, for which he was awarded the Gold Medal. As head of numerous events and dance weeks, Klaus was very much appreciated. Through his ethnographic knowledge, he was known beyond the borders of Austria.

Klaus taught at the California University of the Pacific Folk Dance Camp (now Stockton Folk Dance Camp) in 1982.

Klaus passed away on December 16, 2006.

Dances Klaus taught include Ahrntaler Ländler, Boarisch, Fieberbrunner Sautanz, Isetaler Masolka, Knödeldrahner, Meraner Driertanz, Neukatholisch, Puchberger Schottisch, Topporzer Kreuzpolka, and Wattentaler Masolka.
