THE INTERSECTION GREEK DANCERS will delight audiences at the Northridge Greek Festival over Memorial Day weekend.  LAURIE ALLEN (nee Foier) will make a guest appearance.
 
Watch for a GOURMET EVENING at the "I" on MONDAY, JUNE 2nd.  We're featuring and adventure in food -- a different country each month.  This ODYSSEY experience is $11.50 per person.  ADVANCE RESERVATIONS ARE A MUST!
 
DICK OAKES guests at Tulsa's Balkan Weekend. Now that he's a confirmed 'Balkanite', his followers include ED LEDDEL, NEIL SEGAL, DAVE GOLBER..all jumping on Wednesdays.
 
A couple of Saturdays ago, we heard some "STREEEEAAAKKING" sounds or was it "SHRIEEEKKING"  Anyway...we give the costume of the year award to ........?
 
NIKO SAVVIDIS is preparing a major workshop on PONTIAN and MACEDONIAN dances before he returns to Greece to continue his work and research.  Date to be announced.
 
FRANCINE RUSSELLE LEHM of AVAZ and VILMA MATCHETTE are planning a Sunday breather on JUNE 8th with a
 
SUNDAY AFTERNOON LECTURE SERIES.  First lecture will be a talk and slides on the "Women of Islan".  Vilma will also talk about Costumes In the Holy Land.
 
MARIA MORCA who stomps around in our newly-formed FLAMENCO CLASS, can be seen in  the upcoming film "MASADA" and the tv spec, "DRACULA"!
 
DEBBIE GATES delighted the WEDNESDAY KOLO enthusiasts by pulling in her whole class from the Golden West College.
 
AVAZ CONCERT at the Wilshire Ebell on May 18.....
 
How about an Oscar-type Award for folk dancing?  Let's see if we can find a name for this boy/girl award!....We've missed seeing MILLIE LIBAW's red boots.  She was one of our very first members.  She actually has several pairs of red boots...TRUDY BRONSON is more than a 'lift' to all those classes she teaches in Greek dancing....OPA!  MARK JORDAN has really made progress with his dancing.  Daughter MONICA is gaining professional status....ROUVEN HOVHANESSIAN and his charming NICOLE who met at a Tuesday or maybe the Saturday classes????have tied the knot.  It was a great wedding with everyone dressed in authentic Armenian costumes.....VICKI MILLER has been searching in our record piles for some soulful Hassapikos by Poulopoulos...PAT RAWALT has a 10_30 curfew.  Come hell or high water she's got to hit the freeway by 10:30!  Once in a while, she slips in an extra dance...We mourn the loss of JULIE BUTTERWORTH, one of our Intersection Greek dancers....How about a bake sale?  We'll start an ethnic baking contest??...Folk dancing and celebrating is good for the soul, if we have any left after the gas price hikes and the spiraling economy...

PAUL SHELDON puts on a great party on Saturday nights.  Many games and a good time is had by all.  Try it, you'll like it!
 
DICK OAKES has just returned from a tour of the Orient.  Hopefully he won't be teaching his Balkan dances Kabuki-style!!  On Wednesday nights, Dick brings back the old favorites plus new dances making the circuit.
 
LOOK FOR MANY of the regulars at the "I" in the upcoming film "The Postman Always Rings Twice"...kicking up their heels in a Greek scene from the Thirties!  Athan Karras was technical director on this flick.
 
ISRAELI INDEPENDENCE will be celebrated on Tuesday, April 29, 1980.  Keep an eye out for some fun happenings -- a splurge with exhibition dancers commemorating the event.
 
MONDAY NIGHTS are in the 'special event' category.  A few weeks ago, Tony Perris, showed his films to a group of entertainment execs, etc.  We are planning more such events.  Look for a POETRY EVENING, and announcement of a "GOURMET NIGHT" -- an outstanding experience in dining.  For more information, sign up and we'll send you specifics.
 
MARIA MORCA - that fabulous and talented dancer in films and tv, has joined the ranks at the "I", offering a regular FLAMENCO class every Satuday.
 
BELLY DANCERS GALORE!  Lots of belly-dance classes are now available at the "I" -- enough to fit into everyone's schedule.  The HABU SHOP now located at the "I" has belly-dancers costumes, accessories, etc.
 
DICK OAKES and SHERRY COCHRAN, once a month, will run a couple's dance workshop.  So many of you have inquired about "COUPLE DANCE CLASSES".  Many of them, like the Hambo, are just too tricky to 'pick up.'  Bring your guy or gal.  Day and date will be announced.
 
SUNDAY, APRIL 13th, a group of mountain hikers are invading the "I" for a CRASH course before embarking on their trip to Northern Greece.  Hope they'll not scuff our coffers as they prance through "Hassapikos' and 'Tsamikos' and devour!...Moussaka and Spanakopita! ....Should we say: "Don't Climb On Sunday?"
 
PAUL GETTY COLLECTION OF ANCIENT GREEK VASES will he exhibited at the Bowers Museum in Santa Ana.  The Intersection Greek dancers will be featured at the opening celebration.  Athan Karras will be presenting a mini-convert featuring ancient poetry, dances and a gourmet dinner that would delight the Greek Gods depicted on the vases!!.....Starting on April 11th.
 
We are planning one MONDAY as a special "SOCIAL" for members and guests.  ADMISSION FREE.  Day and date to be announced!
 
DON'T FORGET APRIL 19th when OTEA, the Polynesian ensemble will be performing..AND YVES MOREAU, that sparkle from Montreal, will be at the "I" on MONDAY, MAY 5th with his Macedonian-Bulgarian material!

We're scouting for a number "10" to replace BO DEREK whose schedule is exhausting and so has no time for Greek dancing anymore. Bo was a regular visitor to the "I".
 
ATANAS KOLAROVSKI where are you?  He called us to arrange a workshop and disappeared somewhere in the East.  We'll get him here soon.
 
DICK OAKES -- a real SMAAASH! on Wednesday nights.  He keeps everybody tripping on the light fantastic with the good ol'Balkan dances.
 
INTERSECTION MEMBERS -- We are organizing a 'Members's Only Night. Watch for it.
 
DORI ALONI joins the ranks of our proven professionals. She will be running the ISRAELI night every TUESDAY, starting with Israel Independence on April 29th.

THE INTERSECTION GREEK DANCERS "Dionysos," delighted audiences at the BOWERS MUSEUM opening of the J. Paul Getty collection of Ancient Greek Vases.  Steve Reynolds really pulled off some neat new material.
 
ZORKA NELSON has one of the best collections of photographs taken at the "I". Ask her about them.  You may find yourself in some shot!
 
COUPLES WORKSHOP -- Friday, April 25th with DICK OAKES and SHERRY COCHRAN.  Don't be a wallflower.  Learn the mambo and other dances.
 
MAY 5th, MAY 5th...YVES MOREAU will conduct a special workshop on MONDAY, MAY 5th.  Many of you know the kind of exciting material he presents.
 
MARIA MORCA has started a FLAMENCO class for men and women.  If you like stomping your feet, this really gets it all out..!
 
ARMENIAN DANCE WORKSHOP with SHERRY COCHRAN on FRIDAY, MAY 9th.
 
BELLY DANCERS now have a choice of different classes under supervision of MARIE SILVA.
 
MARCUS HOLT and that BULGARIAN TRIO (actually five this time) will make a personal appearance at the "I" on FRIDAY, MAY 16th.
 
MARCELLA MICHELSON, who has appeared in such magazines as People, etc. now has made the "I" her home and delights in Greek dancing and performing....VILMA MATCHETTE is organizing some new ideas for the "I".  In the offing is an afternoon lecture demonstration series with slides, etc. on costumes, customs, etc.  Watch for it.  ROB STOKES, back from the San Diego area to delight us again with his phenomenal playing on the clarinet. He played for us on Thursday and I look forward to hearing it again soon. GYPSY DANCERS where are you?  We miss you..!

A SUMMER FILM FESTIVAL is planned for MONDAY nights. It will feature unusual dance films and ethnographic experiences. Watch for further details and time.
 
DICK OAKES is planning an ethnic-type PICNIC. He is also expanding his teaching to include Fridays.
 
POLSKI ISKRY is now rehearsing weekly at the "I" every Sunday morning We welcome the formation of this new Polish ensemble and those interested in joining, see SHERRY COCHRAN.
 
MEMBERS OF THE "I" will automatically receive a 10% discount on full-course dinners with their guests. If you are planning a party, make your reservation and please show your card. A 10% discount is also extended to members for any records purchased that are not on sale....We're not Avis, but we try even harder!
 
NICK NICHOLS (nee Nikolopulos) whose ancestors hail from the Peloponese in Greece, is slowly gaining the ranks of expert Greek dance instructors.
 
ARES (ancient Greek God of War) is NOW an outstanding soccer team from Athan's hometown in Thessaloniki and is in the running for the National Cup in Greece.
 
KITT ROBERTS, our mysterious good-looking blonde, is truly a Greek at heart who puts the fine touches on many of our catering affairs...She's not a bad dancer either..
 
ROB STOKES will have to drop the clarinet while dancing to his own recorded tapes!
 
INTERSECTION GREEK DANCERS "DIONYSOS" are piling up performances all over!
 
Now that we are getting into the visual arts, we're planning an evening where YOU can show off your own film (8mm or 16mm). We'll screen it for everybody. If you have any dance footage, or films of festivals here or abroad which would be of interest to others, let us know and we'll schedule the date.
 
Should we plan a futuristic celebration this Fall for the "I" since we're in the decades of the '80 or a Nostalgia evening??? We were delighted to receive the newsletter report from GEORGE TOMOV of New York. Incidentally those interested in working on our newsletter are welcome to join the staff....It's been great seeing many old faces return to shuffle around and truly enjoy dancing. Munching on the souvlaki and falafel is also rising...Refreshing to see DORI ALONI revive some beautiful ISRAELI dances on Tuesday.
