Per and Margareta Jennische

Per and Margareta Jennische are from Uppsala, Sweden. Per teaches chemistry at the University of Uppsala and Margareta is a speech therapist. In 1977, they visited the United States on a faculty exchange program, during which Per taught at the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana. The couple have three children.
Per and Margareta were members of Philochoros during its 1976 United States tour. Philochoros is the oldest folk dance society in Sweden, and possibly the world. It was founded by students at the University of Uppsala in 1880. The word "philochoros" is Greek and means "dance loving." The society's first tour in 1883 stopped at 35 places in Sweden. During the tour, members also documented dances and music and bought several regional costumes. The troupe has an extensive range of activities and has over 300 members, of which approximately 180 are active. The group has its own cabin, called Stornoret, where many of the society's activities takes place.
