Jan "Bob" Pumpr started his dancing career in 1991 as a member of the Dvorana Dance Ensemble in Prague, Czechoslovakia and he has been leading this ensemble and acting as its teacher. Simultaneously, he also danced in the dance ensemble Beseda led by Professor FrantiĊĦek Bonuš and, in 1996-97, with Ondráš, the Brno folk dance ensemble.

Jan currently teaches dance at the private Music Art Academy in Prague and acts as an external lecturer of folk dancing at the Prague Dance Centre Conservatoire.

Apart from Czech and Moravian folk dance, Jan also teaches clogging (American traditional tap dance), American country dance, Scottish country dance, Mexican dance, and ballroom dance of the 19th century. Outside the Czech Republic, Jan has taught dancing in the France, Germany, Japan, and the United States.
