John Tiffany held a teaching certificate in Royal Scottish Dancing from the Royal Scottish Country Dance Society in Edinborough, Scotland, and he had over 20 years of teaching experience. He was married to Susan.
In the late 1960s in Los Angeles, California, John danced with The Team, a Scottish Country Dance demonstration group directed by Anthony Ivancich. Some of the groups other members were David Brandon, Lois Brandon, Ruth Garber (photo at left), Nitche Graham, Susan Tiffany, Larry White, and Vickie White. The Team performed primarily for Folk Dance Festivals.
In addition to The Team, John performed with the Royal Scottish Dancers, the Gandy Dancers, and Betyárok Hungarian Dancers.
Among others, he worked with the Cornell University Dancers, Michael Herman, a folk dance leader in New York City, and C. Steward Smith, a Scottish dance specialist.
John and Susan, known affectionally as Susi, formed the Orange County Folk Dancers in the 1960s.
Susi died of a brain tumor on June 5, 2013, preceded by John's death by several years.
Dances John taught include Oláhos, Let's Have a Ceilidh, Pusztafalusi Sarkantyus és Csárdás, and Szekely Friss.
