Where could we have found a better place for the 30th Annual Statewide Festival, and who a better Charperson than Audry Silva, as the South looked to one of their talented workers to offer her fair city for "Fiesta 75." Sheila Ruby, President of Federation, South, said it all in her Program Welcoming and greeting. The North will be ably represented by President Ernie Dresher.
Santa Maria, while not a large city, has excellent facilties for a Statewide and there should not be a dull moment during the four days of May 23, 24, 25, and 26.
The large Vandenberg Inn is headquarters but Audrey's and Joe's home was also a fine meeting place.
Most of us from the North missed the Pre-Party Friday night at Veteran's Hall but were on hand for the Institute Saturday, where we sure worked on the Portuguese "Chamarita." Dick Crum's Balkan dances were also well received. Chairperson Karen Codman did here homework.
All Festival dancing Saturday and Sunday afternoon and evening will take place at the Convention Center with most After Parties at Veteran's Hall. During the hours when there was no dancing, Elsa Miller was busy with her Costume Display at the Flower Building.
There were many excellent exhibitions at all the festivals, thanks to Chairperson Maria Reisch.
The Past President's Party has gone formal with a special invitation from Valerie Staigh for Sunday Evening from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. in Henry and Sheila Ruby's room in the Vandenberg. An RSVP, please. I was there and have pictures to prove it.
The Installation Brunch, Morris Lechtic and Mable Lord, Chairpersons, was scheduled for 10:30 a.m. at the Vandenberg with Sheila Ruby and Ernie Dresher doing the installing but there will be no Past President's pinning session this year. Both Sheila and Ernie installed themselves for a second term.
For those who managed to stay over Monday, there was dancing outdoors at Waller Park with a Picnic Barbecue at 12:00 noon.
Thank you Audrey and your fine Committee for everything. Here are the names of some of the Committee not already mentioned who labored to make sure we enjoyed ourselves: Coordinator, Avis Tarvin; Decorations, Dorothy Daw, Equipment and Sound, Ralph Miller; Masters of Ceremonies and Callers, Valerie Staigh; Publicity, Pearl Bleadon; and all the others mentioned in the program.
P.S. Beating the drums, literally, were folks from Hayward to stir up interest for the 1976 Statewide in Hayward. The picture of the head drummer, Frank Kane, is worthy of reproducing.
